Four McPherson College Bulldog men’s tennis team members were recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) individually in the pre-season 2012-13 rankings.
The honorees are Torsten Keil-Long, David White, Mark Mahan and Rafael Bulnes.
Senior Keil-Long was ranked No. 16 for singles in the Central Region of the NAIA. Keil-Long had a very good showing for the Bulldogs this Fall reaching at least the quarter-finals of all three tournaments the Bulldogs participated in.
His best showing was at the Bethany Invitational where he lost in the Final of the Singles C Flight to Alex Sandri of Bethany College.
Junior transfer White was also recognized by the ITA with a No. 13 ranking for singles in the Central Region. White won the Wichita Invitational in Flight B and reached the round of 16 of the ITA Fall Central Regional Tournament. White teamed up with fellow Junior Mahan to be recognized by the ITA with a No. 6 ranking in doubles in the Central Region.
Mahan and White won the Flight B Doubles in the Wichita Collegiate Invitational and reached the quarter finals of the ITA Fall Central Regional Tournament.
Finally, Sophomore transfer Bulnes was recognized with a No. 8 Ranking in the Central Region and a No. 43 Nationally for singles. Rafael reached the finals of the Wichita Collegiate Invitational and the semi-finals of the Bethany Invitational this Fall.
“I am very proud of all of our players as they have worked hard this fall both on and off the court,” head coach Jeff Benito said
The Bulldog men’s tennis team opens the season at the New Mexico Kick-Off hosted by the University of Southwest and Arizona Christian University in Hobbs, N.M.
The Bulldogs will play University of Texas – Permian Basin on Feb. 1. The Bulldog’s first home match is set for Feb. 28 against BCC.
