The rosters for the 2013 Kansas Shrine Bowl were announced Wednesday, and McPherson High School’s Collin French will participate as part of the West team.
The senior guard/tackle was selected to be one of only 68 players from across the state to play in the annual charity all-star game. Players are selected by a ballot of over 25 sports media professionals and the selections of the 2013 Kansas Shrine Bowl coach staff.
Joining French on the West team will be Rose Hill’s Cody Walther, Cody Busby from Salina South, Jarod Gagnebin of Hutchinson, Kolby Fennewald from Mulvane and Great Bend’s Hunter Harrison.
Among the representatives on the East team are Holton’s Trent Tanking, who recorded 427 yards rushing for the Wildcats this past season. Others on the East team include Dylan Hall of Topeka Seaman, Jordan Johnson from Olathe Northwest and Jerel Morrow of Emporia.
The coaching staffs of the two squads are made up of head coachs from around the state. Manning the helm of the West team will be Hays head coach Ryan Cornelsen, who led the Indians to a 7-3 record this past year. Joining him on the West side lines will be Wichita Northwest head coach Steve Martin, Andover coach Mike Lee, Mulvane’s Dave Fennewald, Brad McCormick from Garden Plain and Sterling’s Matt Hendricks.
For the East team, Shawnee Heights’ Jason Swift has been tipped as the head coach. He will be joined by Bob Lisher of Lawrence Free State, Bishop Miege’s Jon Holmes, Chris Brindle of KC Piper, Caney Valley’s Criss Davis and McLouth’s Chris Stewart.
The 2013 Kansas Shrine Bowl will be played on July 27, 2013, at Washburn University’s Yager Stadium in Topeka. This will be the 40th annual Shrine Bowl.
In addition to the recognition of the participants, the Shrine Bowl donates all net profits to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
To date, over $2.5 million has been raised through the annual game.
