  • 2013 at the Sandzén Gallery begins with three guest artist exhibitions, along with works from the collections.
The shows include Landscapes by Larry Lambert, a show of paintings by Hutchinson artist Larry Lambert; Legacy, an exhibition of prints spanning generations which were collected by Elizabeth Liljegren of Lindsborg; and Soil Secrets, which includes ceramics, sculpture and drawings by gallery curator Ron Michael.
The shows open Tuesday and continue through Feb. 17 with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 13. An exhibit from collections will also feature works by area artists.
    The artists
Larry Lambert, a native Kansan, specializes in paintings of rural America. His watercolors are known for their intricate details. He also enjoys painting wildlife scenes, and portraits. Acrylics and pastel chalks are other mediums he uses.
Legacy is an exhibition that spans generations with prints representing teachers as well as students collected by Elizabeth Liljegren. The collection stirs Elizabeth’s memories of her teachers and her 37 years as a teacher at McPherson High School.
Sandzén Gallery curator Ron Michael is also an artist who makes ceramics, sculpture and drawings that are inspired by the landscape, soil and geology of Kansas. Although most are invented forms or images, they reference organisms, objects and remnants that can be seen in this subtle and alluring ecosystem. When creating pieces, he tries to infuse them with a natural weathered aesthetic that is simple, imperfect and asymmetrical.
The Sandzén Gallery is at 401 N. First St. in Lindsborg. Hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. The gallery is closed on Mondays. Admission is free, contributions are welcomed. Docent tours for groups are available by two-week advance appointment with the gallery. For more information about Birger Sandzén and the gallery visit the website www.sandzen.org or call 785-227-2220.
