The McPherson High bowling squads opened up their seasons with strong showings at the Andale Invitational held Saturday at Wichita West Acres Bowl.
The Bullpup girls got the year off on the right foot, finishing second in the field of 26. The Pups had scores of 417, 454, 431, 475, 331 and 367 on the day.
“The girls got off to a great start and were consistent all day,” MHS coach Herb Halinski said. “The team communicated well and were able to make adjustments.”
Halinski said Crystal Nutter was a standout for the team, recording strikes in the 10th frame of 10 of the 12 games, enabling the team to pick up the bonus pins.
Bishop Caroll finished first, while Eisenhower, Maize and Wichita East rounded out the top five.
On the boys side, Halinski said the Bullpups got off to a bit of a rough start, but managed to pull it together enough for a seventh place finish (410, 343, 413, 371, 426, 532).
“This was the first tournament for several of the boys and nerves got them to start with,” Halinski said. “Joel Morey and Levi Holgerson were able to calm down the others and get them going.”
Wichita Southeast finished first, followed by Wichita Northwest, Eisenhower, Maize and Bishop Caroll.
The Bullpups are at home for a triangular Friday against Buhler and Sacred Heart. The triangular gets underway at 1 p.m. at Starlight Lanes in McPherson.
