  • Turnovers put the brakes on a three-game win streak by the Mac College women Saturday in front of a home crowd, as Friends University downed the Bulldogs 77-55.
McPherson battled with a taller Falcon team throughout the first half, finally taking a lead with 2:51 left in the period and holding on for a 31-30 halftime advantage, thanks in part to 12-of-16 shooting from the foul line in the half.
Friends took the lead back on the first possession of the second half and wouldn’t look back, though Mac College kept it close until about the 15 minute mark. The Falcons blasted out a 15-2 run, increasing their advantage to 17 points, thanks in part to 24 total turnovers by the Bulldogs.
Ali Brewster and Madison Chambers each had 11 points in the loss, which drops McPherson to fifth in the KCAC with a 3-3 record (9-7 overall). Beth Cooper came in off the bench for 10 points for the Bulldogs.
Abril Marshall led all scorers with 17 points for Friends, followed by Minta Whetstone’s 16 and Inekka Stevenson’s 11.
The Bulldogs shot 17-of-49 from the field in the loss, while Friends shot 52.7 percent. Mac College is on the road Thursday, as they will face Kansas Wesleyan. Tip off is slated for 6 p.m.
