Pastor Jack E. Smith, 81 of Canton, died Saturday morning, Jan. 5, 2013, at his home in Canton.
He was born on Jan. 27, 1931, in Fredonia, the son of Walter Paul and Bertha (Koch) Smith. He was a retired pastor of the Canton Christian Church and former owner of Jack Smith Shoe Shop in Wichita.
He was a member of the Canton Christian Church and was past president of the Ministerial Alliance and the Canton Senior Citizens. Pastor Jack was instrumental in the forming of “Teen Church,” a Sunday night bible study for youth. He also was a former member of the Barber Shop Chorus in McPherson.
On June 8, 1996, he married Gymmie (Kennedy) Anderson in Wichita and she survives.
Other survivors include a son, Greg Smith, Wichita; a step-son, James Anderson, Wichita; two daughters, Jacquie Jeffreys, Arvada, Colo., and Gaylene Sawdy, Denver; step- daughters, Mary Anne Blase, Wichita, Susan Whyte. Wichita, Carrie Coulter, Cheney, Wash., and Jean Stone, Wichita; a brother, Fred Smith, Ponca City, Okla., four grandchildren; 10 step- grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.
A brother, Jim Smith and sister, Phyliss Rhoads preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at the Canton Christian Church. Graveside service and interment was Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, in the Canton Township Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Canton Christian Church, in care of Olson’s Mortuary, Canton.
