  • The McPherson High swim team started off Tuesday’s meet at Hutchinson by setting a new state qualifying time in the 200-yard medley relay on their way to a third place finish.
The team of Derick Goodson, Russell Regehr, Kyler Jost and Zane Richter finished first with a time of 1:58.29, which also qualified them for the state meet in February.
Goodson took first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:09.25 and the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.56 seconds.
Jost just missed qualifying for state in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing with a time of 1:04.44, a second off the state mark.
“He has definitely earned consideration time,” coach Bonnie Sue Fisher said. “This was Kyler’s first time swimming this event, so his performance was very impressive.”
Richter and Ryen Trost both set personal best times in the 100-yard freestyle, while Spencer Steinert dropped four seconds off his 500-yard freestyle time.
The Pups are back in the pool Thursday at Salina.
