  • Pratt High School’s Thomas Mayberry has signed a letter of intent to play tennis at Bethany College for the 2012-2013 academic year.
Mayberry comes to Bethany from Pratt High School where he played basketball and tennis during his four years there.
He was a member of the basketball team that attended the State Tournament in 2012. Mayberry qualified for Kansas 4A State Tennis Tournament his freshman, sophomore, and junior years of high school. He was also an officer of Kay Club during his junior and senior years.
"Coach (Tony) Swiantek and I are excited to have Thomas join our team next year,” Bethany head coach Vic Bateman said. “I was very impressed watching Thomas play this past summer. Thomas' game reminds me of Coach Tony Swiantek around the same age, who also played and won a state title for the Greenbacks. I look for Thomas to have a great senior season of tennis with Pratt and come in and compete for a top six spot right away.”
Mayberry has been coached by another former Swede in high school, Larry Kahmeyer.
“Thomas is fortunate to be in a great high school tennis situation,” Bateman said. “He also has the benefit of teammate Liam Kahmeyer pushing him daily, and the support of parents Susan and Chris Mayberry. It's great news for our program to have Thomas become a Swede." Mayberry has a 3.31 grade point average and plans to major in business and finance.
