  • A defensive battle broke out in Lindsborg Thursday night, as Friends University defeated the Bethany Swede women 46-38 in a low-scoring KCAC affair.
Neither team really lit up the scoreboard in either half, with the Falcons taking better advantage of their trips to the foul line to claim a 22-21 halftime lead.
Both teams were fairly even in shooting numbers for the half, with Bethany going 8-for-21 from the field to Friends’ 7-for-22 performance. Both teams only managed a single three-pointer in the frame.
The difference in the half was foul shooting, as the Falcons went 7-of-10 from the charity line, compared to Bethany’s 4-of-9 first half performance.
The second half was more of the same, though Friends was able to manage a trio of buckets from beyond the arc, while the Swedes went 1-of-9 in distance shooting in the second half.
Foul shooting was, once again, key, as the Falcons went 7-of-12 from the line, with Bethany only going 4-of-8 in the second half.
For the game, Bethany was better from the field, shooting 36.8 percent to Friends’ 31.1 percent. The Falcons were 63.5 percent from the foul line, while Bethany was 47.1 percent on 8-of-17 shooting. Both teams combined for a grand total of six three-point buckets in the game.
Defensively, Friends had 45 stops to Bethany’s 44, though the Swedes were better under the glass on the defensive end, out-rebounding the Falcons 19-16. Offensive rebounds went to Friends 15-10.

Garner was also the leading Bethany scorer with nine points.
Bethany moves to 2-17 (1-5 KCAC) with the loss and will be in action Saturday evening at 5 p.m. against Kansas Wesleyan. The Coyotes were defeated by McPherson 73-66 Thursday.
