  • McPherson College got their first conference win of the 2012-13 season as they took down Kansas Wesleyan University 73-66. MC moves to 7-11 overall and 1-6 in the conference with the victory.
The Coyotes got up early in the first half, leading 9-2 in the first four minutes.
Ten minutes later, after an abundant of turnovers by both teams, McPherson found themselves down by 13 but rallied back to a three-point deficit at halftime. KWU went into the locker room ahead 27-24.
Neither team shot the ball well in the game’s first 20 minutes. MC was just 8-of-29 with 4-of-17 of those coming from downtown.
The Coyotes shot the ball slightly better, making 30 percent of their 30 shots and 7-of-11 from the charity stripe.
KWU came out in the second half controlling the pace and maintaining their advantage. They led by a handful of points but couldn’t push it to double-digits.
A 9-0 run by McPherson tied the game at 42 with 11:32 remaining. The two teams would trade baskets for the next few minutes and with 7:31 on the clock, McPherson took the lead and didn’t give it back for the rest of the game.
An amazing 56.7 percent shooting percentage was tallied by MC in the second period as they converted on 17-of-30 but only made three shots from distance.
Going 12-of-15 from the stripe helped propel the Bulldogs to their win. KWU hit on 10-of-23 from the floor including 3-of-9 from the three-point line. The ‘Yotes made 10-of-12 from the free throw line.
Samson Shivers and Mason Hewitt each tallied a game-high 18 points but did it in very different ways.

Darius Hill had a great game for MC, tallying 16 points on 5-of-6 from the floor and 6-of-6 from the stripe. He also grabbed 15 total rebounds, four on the offensive end.
