  • Bill Loewen, 90, of McPherson passed away at 5:40 a.m., Sunday, January 13, 2013, peacefully, at Cedars Health Care Center.

  • Bill Loewen, 90, of McPherson passed away at 5:40 a.m., Sunday, January 13, 2013, peacefully, at Cedars Health Care Center.
    Bill was born on July 26, 1922, in Hillsboro, a son of the late Mary (Harms) and Dietrich K. Loewen.
    Bill attended and graduated from Lehigh High School, Lehigh.
    He was a member of First Baptist Church McPherson. Bill was a member of the church choir for more than 60 years.
    He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
    Bill was a sales manager at Kansas Kampers for 11 years; the owner of Bill Loewen Motor Company in Salina, for more than 20 years; sales manager at Reimer Ford for 10 years; worked at Western Auto six years.
    He was a member of the American Legion Post 24 in McPherson for 63 years; He was a cofounder of the Light Capital Singers (now Men in Harmony), and was a founding member of the Mac Foursome Barbershop Quartet, all of McPherson, Kansas. Bill shared his love for barbershop for more than 38 years.
    He enjoyed singing, playing golf working and traveling.
    On Bill was united in marriage to Mary Ida Haag on April 24, 1949, at McPherson.
    He is survived by his wife, Mary Ida, his daughter and three granddaughters, daughter Glenna Balsick, of McPherson; granddaughters, Jenna Balsick and Sydney (Jason) Hunt; all of McPherson; Kristen Jukes, of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters Elvira Neufeld, of Fresno, Calif., and VaLetta Longhofer, of Wichita; other relatives and a host of friends.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters; Jolene Marie Loewen and Janice Jukes; a son-in-law Steve Jukes; a brother, Clarence, and a sister, LuElla Bonesteel. Friends are invited to call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Glidden-Ediger Chapel, McPherson.
    The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at the First Baptist Church, McPherson, with Pastor Alden Dick officiating.
    The final resting place will be in McPherson Cemetery, McPherson.
    Memorial contributions may be given to American Heart Association or First Baptist Church in care of Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home, 222 W. Euclid St., McPherson, KS 67460.
