SALINA — The Smoky Valley girls ran into a buzzsaw Monday afternoon to open up play in the week-long Salina Invitational, falling to the Trojans 61-29.
The Vikings were pounded for the first three quarters, trailing 40-18 after the first half, which included a 21-11 deficit after the first quarter.
Freshman Kelsie Anderson had 12 of the Vikings’ 29 total points. Hannah McBride added 10 points.
Jaylyn Agnew led Andover with 14 points and Sydney Tilson added 13 points.
Smoky Valley will face Clay Center in the consolation bracket of the Salina Invite on Wednesday.
The Viking boys will face Andover this evening at 6 p.m. at Salina South High School.
CANTON — Bennington dropped 43 first-half points on the Canton-Galva boys in the opening day of the Canton-Galva midseason tournament, defeating the Eagles 62-30.
The Bulldogs led 25-4 after the first quarter and almost repeated the performance in the second quarter, taking a 43-10 lead into the locker room at the half.
Zach Fife and Derek Stanley both had 15 points for Bennington. B.J. Glanton added 12 in the win.
Cody Savage was the only Eagle in double digits with 10 points. Trey Moddlemog and Connor Farnham both had five points for Canton-Galva.
The Eagles will face Sedgwick Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. in the consolation semifinals. The Cardinals fell 63-50 to Southeast of Saline in the early game Monday.
The second half of the first round of the Canton-Galva Tournament will see St. John’s Military Academy facing Rock Creek at 6 p.m.
Wichita Home will take on Ell-Saline in the late game at 7:30 p.m.
The final rounds will be held Friday afternoon.
