  • MHS’ Kretzer places at Newton Invite

  • Kaden Kretzer brought home a third place finish over the weekend, as the McPherson High wrestling team competed in the Newton Invitational.

  • Kaden Kretzer brought home a third place finish over the weekend, as the McPherson High wrestling team competed in the Newton Invitational.
    Kretzer went 4-1 at 120 pounds during the tournament, which spanned Friday and Saturday. Ethan Fowler and T.J. Stites went 2-2 at 138 and 152 pounds, respectively.
    In total, only eight wrestlers competed for the Bullpups, with seven weight classes left open. Grand Island, Neb., finished first in the invitational with 243 points, followed by Arkansas City (178) and host Newton (152). Garden City and Colby round out the rest of the top five in the invitational.
    McPherson finished with 30.5 team points.
    The JV was a little more successful Saturday at Abilene.
    Dalton Taylor and Collin Baldwin both took home first place finishes at 132 and 160 pounds, respectively.
    Second place finishes went to Jacob Jackson at 126 pounds, Brendan Hein at 138 pounds and Kaleb Jost at 160 pounds.
    Ross Regier and Ty Goss both placed third at 195 pounds and 220 pounds.
    The Bullpups are off now until Friday, when they travel to Hays for another two-day invitational. Mat time Friday is at 3 p.m.
