The Smoky Valley girls were thumped by Clay Center 51-19 in the consolation semifinals of the Salina Invitational Tournament Wednesday afternoon.
Clay Center jumped out to a quick 15-3 lead after the first quarter at the Salina Bicentennial Center and kept pouring it on in the second, taking a 29-10 lead in to the locker room at half time.
Smoky Valley showed a little life in the third quarter, outscoring the Tigers 9-7 in the frame, but that only seemed to light a fire in Clay Center going into the final frame.
The Tiger defense held the Vikings scoreless in the fourth quarter, while they opened up for another 15 points offensively in the 51-19 win.
Hannah McBride led the Vikings with 11 points on 4-of 11 shooting. Emily Norberg had four points, while Emily Deterding and Clair Denk each had two points.
Alyx Bloom had 14 points for the Lady Tigers and Holly Cooper added 10 in the winning effort.
Smoky Valley will play in the seventh place game Friday afternoon at 3 p.m.
