  • The Bethany Swede men held off a furious Sterling comeback in the second half Wednesday night to take a 78-73 win against the Warriors.
The Swedes move to 7-10 on the year and 3-6 in the KCAC with the win.
Bethany jumped out to a 43-34 halftime lead, thanks in part to 18-for-33 shooting from the field in the period. The Swede defense was on point in the half, keeping the Warriors to 12-of-23 shooting, though Sterling was able to get to the foul line more, shooting 6-for-13.
The second half saw the Swedes go cold from the field, even as Sterling began heating up. Bethany only managed 9-of-21 shooting in the period, while the Warriors shot 15-for-35.
Neither team could buy a three point bucket in the second half, as Bethany was 2-of-6 from distance while Sterling was a pitiful 1-of-13.
Sterling outpaced Bethany scoring-wise in the period 39-35, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the first half deficit, as the Swedes held on for the 78-73 win.
Jordan Bicherle dropped 2 points for the Swedes in the win, while Trey Beachum and Ray Purtle both had 14. Seth Nelson rounded out the Bethany double digit scoring with 10 points.
Sterling’s Raheem Odomes had 23 points.
Next up for Bethany is a Saturday trip to McPherson to face the Bulldogs. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. from the McPherson Sport Center.
