  • New art organization sets open house

  • The newly formed McPherson Arts Alliance Inc. announced an evening event titled “Wine and Paint,” on Friday at theMcPherson Opera House.

  • The newly formed McPherson Arts Alliance Inc. announced an evening event titled "Wine and Paint," on Friday at the McPherson Opera House.
    This will be free, open to the public celebration where we will be announcing a newly created nonprofit arts organization, The McPherson Arts Alliance Inc. A schedule is as follows:
    • 6 p.m.—Music, wine, food and refreshments will be in the ballroom, as well as a brief overview of what the The McPherson Arts Alliance, Inc. has been working on and its planning for spring 2013.
    "New leadership has been created within the arts in the city of McPherson, to help promote the arts in McPherson County, and we can't wait to tell you more details about it," a news release said.
    • 6:15 p.m.— The "Wine and Paint" event will begin in the ballroom. Mingle and enjoy a glass of wine and choose to watch or participate with local artist,Wayne Conyers in "Watercolor With Wayne."
    The first 20 RSVP participants are guaranteed a workshop placement. -(All materials for workshops
    will be supplied for you.)

    • 7:15 p.m.—Make your way to the wheel throwing and metalsmithing demonstrations in The Mary Anderson Art Center. Food and refreshments may be enjoyed while watching or participating.
    • 8 to 8:15 p.m.—Attendees may continue to mingle, and make their way to the art gallery on the main floor of the McPherson Opera House. Current art exhibition and upcoming events planned for spring 2013 will be announced. There will also be a chance to sign up for a champagne and art bus trip that will take place in February to view western art at the Oklahoma City National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. There will be a drawing for a free ticket for the bus tour.
    The arts council will offer two classes in February and March.

    Beginning Ceramics, Wheel Throwing and Handbuilding I
    (adults and older youth)

    WHEN 5:30–8:30 pm Sundays, February 17, 24, March 3, 10, 17, 24

    CLASS FEE $65 (six weeks)
    Participants also will purchase materials and tools necessary from the instructor for about $58.
    These will include tools for building with and throwing clay, 25 to 50 pounds of clay and glazes.
