The McPherson High bowling teams had a successful day Friday, as they swept Augusta in AVCTL play at Starlight Lanes.
The boys rebounded from a rocky showing last week to win with a combined scored of 2,580 to 2, 453.
MHS coach Herb Halinski said the day was highlighted by Jacob Helmer rolling a 735 in the series of three games.
“He was relaxed and rolling the ball well,” Halinski said. “We just drilled him up a new ball and it matched up well to the conditions that we bowled on.”
Senior Levi Holgerson bowled a 654 on the day, while Jacob Lehman had a 593 and Joel Morey had a 562 as additional highlights for McPherson.
In the girls’ match, the Bullpups won with a combined score of 2,341 to 2,309.
Mayce Nightengale had the high series for the Bullpups with a 591. Moli Metheny had a career best, bowling a 578.
“She was excited all day,” Halinski said, “which led to the other ladies being excited, as well.”
Even with the win, Halinski says there is room for improvement, especially with three meets coming up in the next week.
“We missed a lot of spares, even with all the spare practice we did this week,” he said. “I am proud ofthe improvement this week and we will continue working hard in practice on spares, which should show up as the season progresses.”
The boys’ JV squad won their match 2,111 to 2,061. Tyler Morse had a series of 574.
The girls’ JV fell 1,650 to 1,505.
