  • McPherson’s Kyler Kinnamon was honored for his efforts during the 49th annual McPherson Invitational, as he was named tournament Most Valuable Player following Saturday’s championship game between the Bullpups and Shawnee Mission East.
It’s hard to argue with the selection, as Kinnamon’s efforts went behind simple scoring, though he was third on the list of both point totals and points-per-game, topped the list of total free throws taken, and led in total assists dished out.
Beyond that, however, was Kinnamon’s outstanding performance Friday night against Wichita Heights, where the sophomore took control of the game and propelled McPherson into the finals. Another phenomenal game followed Saturday against the Lancers.
Kinnamon had 48 points and averaged 15 per game in the tournament.
McPherson’s Marcus Houghton and Keaton Sorenson were selected for the All-Tournament team.
Houghton shot 60 percent from behind the three-point arc for the Invite, while Sorenson amassed 34 total rebounds.
Joining the Bullpup duo on the tournament team were Ryan Ralston and Joey Lillis from Blue Valley West, as well as Vance Wentz and Zach Schneider from Shawnee Mission East.
Wentz led everybody in scoring with 50 total points and an average of 16.7 per game. He was also 22-for-29 from the foul line.
Rounding out the team was Ealy Bell from Wichita Heights, Maize’s Tavon Marrow and Manhattan’s Jacob Holloway.
