Boy Scouts from McPherson Troop 133 joined more than 7,000 Scouts and leaders at Harvey County Lake last weekend for a weekend of camping, trading and camaraderie.
Trappers Rendezvous is an annual Scouting camp out that brings Scouts from all over Kansas and the Midwest to practice the skill of bartering for items with one another. Scouts are free to bring a wide variety of items from home to display in the camps.
Thousands of fellow Scouts stroll through the camp hoping to find something that catches their eye. Once they see an item, the two Scouts then attempt to negotiate a trade that leaves both parties satisfied.
Scouts also competed in BB gun shooting, tomahawk throwing and a “John Colter” race, which was an 800 meter run with more than 100 competitors.
Troop 133 members established camp on Friday night and spent the camp out also practicing winter camping skills.
Many Scouts claim the event is one of their favorite of the year.
