McPherson youth win free throw competition

Two McPherson youth competed in the Elks District Hoop Shoot competition this past Saturday, bringing home first place finishes for their efforts.

Hayes Schmid competed in the 10-11 boys age division and earned his first place finish by going 23-of-25 in free throw shooting.

Taylor Roberson placed first in the 12-13 girls age division, making 23-of-25 of her free throws.

Both will be competing in the state level of the competition, which will be Feb. 2 in Wichita.

The Elks National Hoop Shoot is a free throw program for youth ages 8-13.

Should they advance beyond the state level, Robertson and Schmid would then compete in the West Central Regionals on March 9 in Denver.
