Louise Gibson, 95, of McPherson, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 24 2013, peacefully, at McPherson Hospital in McPherson.
Louise was born on May 7, 1917, in Little River, a daughter of the late Elsie (Peterson) and Victor Swenson.
She attended and graduated from Windom High School in 1935. She attended and graduated in 1941 from Salt City Business College in Hutchinson.
Louise was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in McPherson. She served as a chairperson of Women's Ministries in her church.
She started work for the Salt City Business College in Hutchinson right after her graduation. She was a secretary for several years. She then worked for Jess Cooper at the Farm Bureau Office prior to her work for Farmers Alliance Insurance Company, both in McPherson. She retired as a Senior Rate Clerk for Farmers Alliance Insurance Company in 1979. She had worked at the company for 23 years.
Louise was a member of the Buzzing Bee Club (65 years); KYN Club (former president); McPherson Senior Citizens Center; VFW Auxiliary and AARP.
She was the widow of Bernard Gibson. They were married on Aug. 6, 1944, at the Congregational Church in McPherson. He died on Aug. 9, 1999.
Louise is survived by her daughter Eloise Owens (Robert), of Denver; two sons, James Gibson, of Salina, and Curtis Gibson (partner, Fabian Martinez), of Wichita; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernard; sisters, Mildred Byrne, Violet Nichol and brothers, Vivian, Julian, and Elwyn Swenson; and a great-granddaughter, Brandi Brooks.
Friends are invited to call from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, with the family present from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Glidden-Ediger Chapel, McPherson.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, McPherson, with Reverend Harry Grinstad officiating.
The final resting place will be in North Inman Cemetery, rural Inman.
