McPherson Housing Coalition has set the date for the annual 2013 Brush Up Mac service project. This one-day event will kick off on April 20 with the help of more than 100 community volunteers.
The McPherson Housing Coalition will help “Brush Up” single family homes for those who need assistance.
Brush Up Mac is a volunteer service project of McPherson Housing Coalition. Each year in April, BUM rehabilitates homes in McPherson utilizing volunteer teams from the community.
Homeowners, particularly the elderly, disabled and low-income families have difficulties with simple tasks, such as yard work and many cannot financially pay for small home repairs. Last year Brush Up Mac helped 10 families with yard work, painting, debris removal and minor home repairs.
As the housing coalition prepares for the 2013 event, it is seeking donations, volunteers and most importantly families who need help with minor home repairs and yard work.
On April 20, volunteers will meet at the First United Methodist Church for breakfast at 7 a.m. and then designated teams will begin projects.
Breakfast is served and prepared by Brush Up Mac Committee members and all volunteers receive a Brush Up Mac T-shirt. Each team will have a house captain who has experience in directing volunteers.
“Please come and share your time and talents with those in need in the community. Together we can make a difference in the McPherson Community one family at a time,” a Brush Up Mac news release said.
If you would like to donate to this cause, be part of a team or if you or someone you know needs help with home projects, contact the McPherson Housing Coalition at (620) 241-7828, extension 11 or 12.
Applications for homeowners can be picked up at the McPherson Senior Center and the McPherson Chamber of Commerce and are due by March 4.
