  • The Inman City Council Monday approved a project to construct a new community building in the city park.
The project will cost between $550,000 to $600,000, which will be paid for with cash on hand, said Mayor John O'Brien.
The building will be about 50 by 80 feet and contain a full kitchen and kitchenette. The rest of the wooden structure will be open with the capacity to seat 220 to 240 people. It will be located where the shelter house is located now.
The city likely will put up the former community building, which is located in an old school, for auction, O'Brien said.
Likely uses for the new community building include family gatherings, school banquets and church functions.
Cottonwood Construction has been selected as the contractor on the project. Work on the building likely will start as soon as the weather allows, O'Brien said. A completion date has not been set.
