  • A loss to Circle High School not more than 72 hours after winning the 49th annual McPherson Invitational dropped the McPherson High boys basketball team two spots in the latest Kansas Basketball Coaches Association rankings.
The Bullpups slipped from a season-high ranking of No. 3 last week to No. 5 this week after the stunner at Circle. Andale, whom MHS defeated Tuesday night at the Roundhouse in overtime, switched places with McPherson, clocking in this week at No. 3. Ottawa and Topeka Highland Park maintained their grips on Nos. 1 and 2, respectively. Kansas City Piper rounded out the top five.
Meanwhile, the Bullpup girls, who finished third in their own tournament this past weekend, remained No. 3 in the girls’ Class 4A rankings, with Holton and Wamego also holding onto the top two spots. Hesston and Topeka Hayden rounded out the top five. The Andale girls, the Mid America Classic’s No. 1 seed, were ranked eighth.
The Moundridge boys were the only other McPherson County team ranked in this week’s KBCA rankings, as the Wildcats held steady at No. 6 in Class 2A after a loss in the championship game of Halstead’s Adolph Rupp Tournament last week. Meade was the top team on the boys’ side.
The Olathe South girls held onto No. 1 in Class 6A after winning their third Mid America Classic title Saturday night. Manhattan moved up one spot to No. 9 after their appearance in the championship game against the Falcons.
Blue Valley Northwest remained No. 1 this week in Class 6A on the boys’ side, while the Shawnee Mission South boys and St. Thomas Aquinas girls ruled Class 5A.
Scott City and Burlington were No. 1 in the Class 3A boys’ and girls’ rankings, respectively. Washington County was again No. 1 in the Class 2A girls rankings.
In Class 1A Div. I, St. John was No. 1 on the boys’ rankings, while Olpe remained on top of the girls’ side.
Fowler and Ingalls once more ruled Class 1A Div. II in the boys’ and girls’ rankings, respectively.
This week’s rankings were released Monday evening by the KBCA and do not reflect Tuesday’s games.
