  • Kansas First Lady Mary Brownback announced today the start of the Kansas Book Festival Writing Contest. The contest begins now and runs through April 30. Winners will be contacted by July 31 and announced at the 2013 Kansas Book Festival on Sept. 7 at the Kansas State Capitol.
Payless ShoeSource is sponsoring the writing contest for the second year. The contest is open to students in grades 3-12 in the state of Kansas.
“We are thrilled to partner with Payless ShoeSource again for this year’s writing contest,” said Mary Brownback. “It is our hope that this writing contest will help spark a love for reading and writing among children across the state.”
The theme for this year’s contest is “Kansas Isn’t Flat It’s…”. The theme asks students to use their creative minds to set straight the common myth about Kansas. There will be a first and second place winner in each grade level division, per congressional district. Divisions consist of the following: grades three-five, grades six-eight, grades nine-12.
