  • McPherson High School will perform "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown" by Michael Mayer at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the high school auditorium.
The performance will be based on the comic strip "Peanuts" by Charles M. Schulz, and will surround an average day in the life of Charlie Brown, including events, holidays and various moods. It is an adapted version of the original musical by Arthur Whitelaw and Gene Persson in 1966. It will include songs "My Blanket and Me," "The Kite," and "The Baseball Game."
"After last year's large musical, we wanted to alternate every other year with a small cast and also a show that would appeal to a younger crowd," Director Greg McGlynn said. "People of all ages seemed to love (Peanuts) and those who have not seen it before, we hope will enjoy the new adventure."
    Stage
McGlynn said it has been a challenge to create a cartoon-like effect, which they did with bright colors on stage.
"My stage craft class has stepped up with some fun, big set pieces," McGlynn said.
Stage crew includes: Ashlei Karber, stage manager; Ashlee May and Hannah Foster, publicity and house; Tanner Wilson and Cody Manning, lighting crew; Tyler Cordell and Jaxon Jummonville, sound and camera crew; Ashlee May, Hannah Foster and Ryan Fulcher, property crew; Kiley Kerr, Monet Kunde, McKenzie Becker and Sara Trappolini, costume and make up.
    Cast
The cast includes: Ethan Winter as Charlie Brown; Nicole Gieselman as Sally; Kerrick VanAsselt as Schroeder; Anna Lidholm as Lucy Van Pelt; Micha Black as Linus van Pelt; Brooke Gaeddert as Snoopy; Shasta Steinert as Peppermint Patty; Amy Suenram as Marcie; Laura Peck as Vilet Gray; Hannah Marshall as Frieda; Jackson Wingert as Pig-Pen; John Blake as Franklin; Molly Black as Rerun van Pel; Chelsey Kerr as Little Red Haired Girl; Kurt Pascnal as Shermy; Bethanie Bouray as Charlotte Braun; Olivia Retigg as Peggy Jean; Laynie Moore as Patty; Evan Herrera as Roy; and Megan Avila as Woodstock.
"The students have done a great job vocally and with choreography," McGlynn said. The cast began rehearsal Jan. 7.
    Dinner and workshop
A dinner theater and a theater workshop also will be offered during the week.
The dinner will be Thursday night only beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 and must be obtained in advance by calling 620-480-9089.
A theater workshop will be offered for students grades two through eight from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at McPherson High School. The cost is $20 and may be paid when registration begins at 8:30 a.m.
Instruction will include acting, improvisation, stage lighting and sound, stage craft and props, song, dance, costumes and makeup.
Page 2 of 2 - "It's a fun show that all ages will enjoy but especially the younger crowd," McGlynn said. "We want to expose them to the performing art at a young age — to hopefully excite them for high school — inspiring them to want to be involved in the arts when they arrive at McPherson High School in a few years. (This is) another reason for our theater workshop."
This is McGlynn's 20th year directing high school theater and his third time to do this show.
"The cast, crew and audience always seem to get a kick out of it," he said.
Tickets for the musical will be $5 for students, $6 for adults and $2 for seniors.
