  • Bulldog men fall to Saint Mary

  • The KCAC leading Saint Mary Spires defended their home turf on Saturday as the McPherson College men couldn’t perform the upset. 
     
    Neither team had a great first half of shooting, with Mac holding a slight advantage as they made 12-of-37 from the floor.  The Spires made 10-of-31 from the floor, putting them just behind McPherson.  A total of 29 three pointers were taken by the two teams combined but only five fell through the basket.
    Mac College was 2-of-16 and Saint Mary hit 3-of-13. Saint Mary held the advantage at the break 29-27.
     The second half opened with a back-and-forth battle as the two teams fought for every bucket.  The final tie of the game came at the 16:30 mark, after that, it was all Saint Mary for the next couple of minutes which was enough for them to build a seven-point lead.
    The Bulldogs closed out the competition cashing in on 25-of-67 from the field including 4-of-24 from deep. They converted on 6-of-11 from the charity stripe in the loss.   
    Mason Hewitt led McPherson from the floor with his 18 points  Samson Shivers was a close runner-up as he bucketed 17 points.
    A total of five Spires hit double figures, led by Jeb Greenberg’s 17. Kevin Harvey added 13, followed by Matt Heydmna’s 12. Jordan Wilcox and Chip Schneider each had 10.
     McPherson is now 10-15 overall and 5-10 in the KCAC with four conference games remaining.
    Mac next travels to take on the Friends University Falcons on Thursday evening. Tipoff will be at approximately 8 p.m.
