McPherson High’s Kaden Kretzer finished third in his weight class Saturday at the Rose Hill Invitational.
Kretzer went 4-1 over the two-day tournament at 120 pounds to claim the third place. He defeated Jeffrey Morrow of Derby in the finals by a 7-3 decision to take his spot on the podium.
To get there, Kretzer pinned Larned’s Duncan Edgin, Mulvane’s Blake Cusick and Valley Center’s Braden Holle.
His only loss was to Andale’s Tyler Mies, a pin that came at the 1:21 mark into the match.
Other Bullpups who had a good showing during the tournament include T.J. Stites at 145 pounds, who went 3-2 on the weekend. Travis Steenson went 2-2 at 182 pounds.
Wrestlers picking up one win on the weekend include Ethan Fowler at 138, Todd Graber at 152 and Kaleb Jost at 160.
Derby took first in the team standings with 148.5 points, followed by Valley Center (138), Andover Central (137), El Dorado (131.5) and Andale (129).
McPherson claimed 17th with 41 team points. Host Rose Hill finished 18th with 37 points.
The season is beginning to wind down for the Bullpups, as only one dual remains against El Dorado at the Roundhouse Thursday night. Mat time is at 6 p.m.
Regionals begin Feb. 15.
