McPherson College’s Arryana Barton and Derrick Toney were selected as the KCAC’s Women and Men Field Athletes of the Week following their performances this past weekend.
Both qualified for the NAIA National Championships in their respective events.
Barton finished first of six competitors in the triple jump at the Nebraska Wesleyan University Quad Meet.
Her jump of 11.72 meters is a McPherson College record, puts her second in the NAIA and qualifies her under the "A" standard for the 2013 NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
She had previously earned a trip to Nationals in the first meet of the year but bettered her mark on Saturday.
Barton also finished third of 11 in the shot put with a throw of 12.3 meters. She was fifth of eight competitors with a long jump of 4.91 meters.
Toney grabbed a first place finish in the high jump and long jump at the Nebraska Wesleyan University Quad Meet.
Toney's mark of 2.0 meters in the high jump matches the NAIA "B" Qualifying Standard.
His leap of 6.33 meters in the long jump is a McPherson College record.
He is currently a three-time NAIA All-American in the high jump and will look to make it four on Feb. 28 at the 2013 NAIA Indoor National Championships.
The Bulldog track teams will be participating in the KCAC Indoor Championships on Saturday. The meet will be held at Ahearn Field House on the Kansas State University campus.
