  • Bethany College men’s basketball player Ray Purtle has been selected for the 2012-13 Capital One District Six College Division First-Team Academic All-District Team.
The team is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Purtle is a 6-foot-3 senior guard from Fallbrook, Calif. He transferred to Bethany College from Palomar Community College in August 2011.
Purtle has been Bethany's leading scorer in 2012-2013, scoring his career high 28 points on Nov. 10 earning him KCAC Player of the Week honors.
“We are very proud of Ray and all that he has accomplished here at Bethany College," Bethany coach Clair Oleen said. "Ray's success story is one of the great stories in athletics at the NAIA level and is a story that should be celebrated."
Purtle will graduate with degrees in elementary education and special education in May of 2014.
