Peoples Bank & Trust presented a $10,000 donation to STEPMC/Circles of McPherson County. These funds will help support the program in helping families living in poverty build financial, emotional and social resources.
Circles has 24 individuals who have taken the 15 week “Getting Ahead Class” during the past three years and have committed to another 18 months as Circles Leaders. As Circle Leaders, they continue in the program and are supported by two to three Allies from the community who become their friends and meet with them several times a month helping them reach their goals to move out of poverty.
“We feel supporting this program is the right thing to do in our community and hope other businesses will also see its value to the community” said Tom Harms, president of Peoples Bank. “This is the first program we have seen that is research-based and a proven strategy that will assist our community to come together and learn how to provide a ‘hand up’ rather than just a ‘hand out’.”
