The annual meeting of the board of directors of the Community Thanksgiving Inc. was conducted Jan. 31 at Knackies. Sixteen board members and guests were present for the dinner and organizational meeting that followed.
The meeting focused on the success of both the Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, along with looking for ways to improve making both events run smoothly.
The Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners fed 1,500 individuals combined, including deliveries and carry outs. It was the consensus of the group that, in the future, no more than five meals will be delivered to a household per dinner. The intent of the dinners are that individuals and families have a place to go for the holidays so they do not have to be alone.
About 500 volunteers, along with monetary and in-kind donations, helped make the two dinners a success, and all were appreciated in whatever capacity they helped.
Both dinners are well attended and, due to the increased volume, takes a lot of individuals to plan and donate their time. The board looked at the bylaws and decided they needed to be amended to be able to expand the board to meet the demand. This will be done at the planning session on Sept. 5.
The following officers were elected: Michael McCormick, president, Barbara Greischar, vice president, Verla Thomason, secretary, Dena Goodall, treasurer.
Additional elected board members include Betty Thomas, Curtis Blake, Merlin Miller, Jody Miller, George Ann Cavebaugh, Debbie Davis, Cindy Goldsmith, Dennis D. Friesen, Rodd Nelson, Theresa Nelson, Summer Koehn, Clifford McIrvin and James Melland.
The board meets about five times a year, and all meetings are open to the public. Interested individuals should contact one of the board members for the time and place.
