  • The Central Christian women showed some fire against waldorf College, but the athleticism of the Warriors and the relative youth of the Tigers proved too much to overcome, as Central fell 79-58.
Waldorf (16-10, 7-6 MCAC) looked to put the game away early, as they opened the first half with a 13-2 run over the opening three minutes of play that left the Tigers reeling.
Central managed to get it together enough in the closing minutes to get the gap closed to 20 points by the buzzer to signal halftime, trailing 50-30.
The second half saw the Tigers come out with determination, charged by the inspired play of Krystina Powell, who looked to pull Central Christian back into the ballgame through sheer force of will, as she finished with 12 points and nine rebounds.
The Tigers (3-22, 0-12)  didn’t give up, even after an 11-0 Waldorf run at the 15:10 mark, and managed to fight back with a 10-2 run of their own in the final three minutes to cut a 30 point Warrior lead to under 20 to end the game.
Central coach Robert Lancaster was proud of the intensity the Tigers displayed in the loss.
“The girls worked hard,” he said. “Unfortunately, we just didn’t execute well enough at times in the game to give ourselves a chance to win.”
Harley Pate also picked up 12 points for the Tigers. Kadetra O’Brine had 11 off the bench.
