  • McPherson USD 418 is using a number of avenues to educate the public on the upcoming bond issue vote Aug 2.
Two public meetings have been scheduled. The first at 6 p.m. March 4 at the McPherson Opera House and the second at 7 p.m. March 26 at the McPherson High School theater. The district has also placed information on their home page and plan to have a Facebook page up by Friday.
Administrators have also been available at a number of events to answer questions and concerns.
The Board of Education shared some data that would be available during their meeting Monday, including what the cost would be to taxpayers if passed. For example, the mill levy is at 6.497 mills and would drop to 5.50 mills. For a $100,000 home, this would translate to a shift in cost from $74.72 to $63.25. This shift would also place McPherson below the mill levy of at least 10 similar schools in the area, including Andale, Circle, ElDorado, Maize and Buhler.
“I think the biggest challenge, and that may change over the eight weeks, is getting people to know what the bond issue is, and (determining) who will turn out to vote in a non-national election,” Superintendent Randy Watson said.
Watson said the district has not heard many comments, whether negative or positive, regarding the bond issue.
