  • Inman High School track standout Grant Garst signed a letter of intent recently to run track for the U.S. Air Force Academy.
According to information supplied to the Sentinel, running track for the Academy has been a long-time goal of Garst’s, who wants to get a pilot slot after graduation.
As a junior for the Teutons, Garst won the Class 2A state championship and the Heart of America League championship in the 800 meter run. His time of 1:56.7 in the HOA championships set a new meet record.
Garst also runs the 400 meter, where his best time is 50.7 seconds.
A multi-talented athlete, Garst has also competed in football and basketball for Inman High School and was selected to the All-HOA second team his junior year as a wide receiver.
He is also active in the Inman High Student Council, serving currently as the president, and is a member of the National Honor Society and the High Honor Honor Roll with a GPA of 4.0.
Garst has not decided yet on a major at the Academy.
