McPherson High School's Derick Goodson brought home a pair of medals Saturday in the AVCTL Div. III meet, setting a new league record in the 200-yard individual medley in the process.
Goodson took gold in the 200 IM with a 2:07.31. He also took home a silver medal in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.03 seconds.
Ryen Trost also had a good showing Saturday for the Bullpups, coming under at 58.42 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle and earning state consideration in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.02 seconds.
Russell Regher dropped time in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly, while Kyler Jost swam his best 100-yard butterfly of the season, breaking the one minute mark at 59.93 seconds.
Freshman Spencer Steinert had a pair of impressive races in the 200-yard and the 500-yard freestyle, swimming the former in 2:24.44 and the latter in 6:24.97.
"Since the beginning of the season, (Steinert) has taken off almost a full 60 seconds in the 500," MHS coach Bonnie Sue Fisher said. "He has built a great foundation for the future of the team."
Maize South won the AVCTL Div. III meet with a total team score of 487 points. McPherson finished with 125 points.
The Bullpups next gear up for the Class 5-1A State Meet this coming Friday and Saturday in Topeka. The Bullpups have the potential to have entries in eight events at state.
