Bruce and Jolynn Peterson, better known as Elder and Sister Peterson, loaded up their vehicle last Friday and headed west toward their home in Mountain Home, Idaho. The Petersons served a 1 ½ year mission for the Church of Jesus of Latter Day Saints. Many retired couples, like the Petersons, opt to spend a portion of their post-retirement this way—in service where they are needed.

That’s how the Petersons moved into town on a hot August day in 2011. Since they arrived in Pratt, they have served not only members of the local church but also the community. Sister Peterson served as the local coordinator for Red Cross Blood drives for over a year. Elder and Sister Peterson helped weekly at the library and delivered Meals on Wheels. Besides teaching lessons and serving in the local church, they also taught the message of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ to anyone who was interested.

It was with some sadness that the couple departed town last Friday. Both told me how much they had come to love the people of this area. So long, Elder and Sister Peterson. All of us back here in Pratt wish you a happy reunion with your children and grandchildren and hope that you are able to make good on your promise to surprise us by showing up in town again one day.
