  • The Smoky Valley wrestling team proved dominating Saturday at the Central Kansas League Tournament, as the Vikings claimed the league title.

  • The Smoky Valley wrestling team proved dominating Saturday at the Central Kansas League Tournament, as the Vikings claimed the league title.
    As a team, Smoky Valley accumulated 142 points for first place. Pratt was second with 117, followed by Lyons (83), Hillsboro (69), Hesston (62), Halstead (60) and Nickerson (24).
    Individually, first place finishes for the Vikings went to Spencer Bird at 160 pounds with a 3-0 record, Trevor Whitaker (4-0) at 170, Weston Loder (2-0) at 182 and Tyler Peterson (2-0) at 195.
    Second place finishes went to Kaden Sare (2-1) at 113, Brandon Archuleta (4-1) at 120, Mason Kerns (2-1) at 132 and Brix Brickley (1-1) at 285.
    Kyle Ryan went 2-2 at 152 pounds to claim third.
    Aaron Taylor finished fourth at 138 with a 1-3 record. Joey Alvarado (0-5) was sixth at 145.
    The Vikings next set their sights on the Class 4A regionals to determine who gets to move onto the state tournament Feb. 22-23.
    Smoky Valley will be competing at Abilene High School this Friday and Saturday. Other schools in their region include McPherson, host Abilene, Chapman, Holton, Wamego and Concordia.
    Other regional sites are Augusta, Pittsburg and Tonganoxie.
