The following is a reader-submitted proposal story.

Erlene Stowe of McPherson and her husband, Reggie, lived together for 65 years before his passing. Her proposal was not on bended knee but through the U.S. mail. She received a letter with her proposal and a ring included on May 7, 1942, from Camp Robinson, Ark., during World War II. One year later, the couple was married on May 6, 1943, which was Erlene’s grandmother’s birthday. The ceremony was at the Little River Congregational Church.
