  • The Bethany women were determined to upset Kansas Wesleyan University Thursday night at Hahn Gymnasium, but came up short in a low-scoring affair 46-42.
    Bethany jumped out early, leading 11-2 after the opening moments of the first half, but Kansas Wesleyan fought back to within three at the half, trailing 25-22.
    Neither team set the world on fire in the first half, with the Swedes shooting only 8-of-28 from the field, failing to convert on either of their two three-point attempts.
    The Swedes were 9-of-10 from the foul line in the first half.
    The Lady Coyotes, meanwhile, were 5-of-29 on their field goals, converting on only 17 percent.
    They hit 3-of-10 from distance and 9-of-13 from the foul line.
    The shooting woes for both teams continued in the second half, as the Lady Coyotes outscored Bethany 24-17 in the period.
    Bethany (5-22, 4-13 KCAC) shot converted 26 percent of their field goals in the half, and finished the game 16-of-59. They only managed a single three point bucket in the second half, finished at 1-for-7 from deep and 9-of-12 from the foul line.
    Kansas Wesleyan finished 12-of-55 from the floor and 6-of-22 from three-point distance.
    The Lady Coyotes were 16-of-23 from the foul line.
    KWU (16-11, 11-6) won the battle under the glass, snagging 44 rebounds to Bethany’s 42. Both teams turned the ball over 12 times.
    Kansas Wesleyan’s Stephanie Frost led all scorers with 17 points.
    Tanya Garner led the Swedes with 16 points and 11 rebounds for the double-double. Tasha Wagoner added 11.
    Bethany wraps up it’s season Saturday night with a road tilt with Sterling. Tip off is slated for 5 p.m.
