  • A channel on Inman televisions that only displays local information has been canceled.
During its monthly meeting last week, the Inman City Council voted unanimously to discontinue what it call their access channel, which displays local events and photographs with music. The decision was made because the operational costs were too high for the number of individuals thought to be using the channel.
Workers at the city office said the channel cost about $200 a month, and although an exact number of users was not determined, numbers of users were believed to be declining. Public information has been and will continue to be placed on a city marquee, scrolling through public announcements and information at the city’s main intersection. Plans also are to place the information on Inman’s website.
The channel has been available to residents for at least eight years.
Workers at the city office said they have had one official complaint about the change as of Monday.
“If we have a lot of people want it, we’ll probably put it back on,” Mayor John O'Brien said. “If there’s enough, I would guess the council would reconsider. If we thought there would be a lot of people upset, we probably wouldn’t have done it.”
