  • An inter-county game between McPherson High School and Smoky Valley High School highlight the Class 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A Divisions I and II brackets released  Wednesday.
    The 5A and 6A brackets will be released on Saturday.
    The McPherson boys will host Smoky Valley Monday evening at 7 p.m. in the Abilene sub-state. The Bullpups, No. 3 in the KBCA poll with a record of 17-2, are the No. 2 seed in the Abilene sub-state behind Hesston (18-2).
    The Swathers will open with Clay Center (3-17) Monday evening. Other games in the sub-state bracket are Chapman (7-13) at Concordia (14-6) and Abilene (16-4) hosting Buhler (5-14). The semifinal and finals while be held Thursday and Saturday at Abilene High School.
    On the girls side of the  Abilene bracket, McPherson (16-3) opens as the No. 3 seed and will host Chapman (3-17) Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the Roundhouse. Smoky Valley (2-18), meanwhile, has the misfortune of facing off with the top-seeded Lady Swathers (18-2) at Hesston in the opening round.
    The other two games Tuesday feature Buhler (10-9) at Abilene (11-9) and Clay Center (17-3) hosting Concordia (3-17).
    In Class 2A, the Moundridge boys and girls are assured of playing at home throughout sub-state, as the Wildcats are not only the host site, the girls are the No. 1 seed, while the boys are seeded second.
    The Moundridge boys (15-5) will open up against Chase County (2-18) Monday night at 7 p.m. Canton-Galva (1-19) is also in the Moundridge sub-state field and will open with top-seed Burden-Central (19-1) Monday night at 7 p.m. Oxford hosts Peabody-Burns and Berean Academy faces Herington in the other two opening round games.
    The Moundridge girls (17-3) will face Canton-Galva Tuesday night at 7 p.m. to open sub-state. Other games will see Herington host Peabody-Burns, Berean Academy faces Burden-Central and Chase County hosts Oxford.
    Inman and Little River will compete in the Sterling sub-state brackets. On the boys side, the Redskins (16-4) will host Pratt-Skyline (2-18) Monday at 7 p.m. Inman (15-5) has drawn the second seed and will host Ellinwood Monday, also at 7 p.m. Kiowa County (12-8) will host Sterling and Central Plains (12-8) hosts Medicine Lodge (8-12) in the other two games.
    For the girls, the Teutons (6-14) will face play at second seeded Sterling (17-3) Tuesday night at 7 p.m. Little River (13-7) hosts Kiowa County (10-9), also Tuesday at 7 p.m. Central Plains (18-2) will face off with Medicine Lodge (3-17) while Pratt Skyline hosts Ellinwood in the other two contests.
    In Class 1A Division II, the Elyria Christian girls (12-7) have drawn a No. 2 seed and a bye in the Sylvan-Lucas sub-state. Their first action will come Thursday against the winner of Sylvan-Lucas (6-13) and Hutchinson Central Christian (3-16) Monday night at 7:30 p.m.
    Page 2 of 2 - Wilson (17-2) is the top seed and will have a bye to the semifinals Thursday. They will face the winner of Otis-Bison (4-16) and Chase (3-16).
    For the Elyria boys, the Eagles (4-15) will travel to Sylvan-Lucas to face the host Mustangs (8-11) Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. The winner will face Wilson (9-10) on Friday. The other game Tuesday will see Otis-Bison (6-14) square off with Chase (5-14), with the winner to face Hutchinson Central Christian (17-3) in the semifinals.
    All finals will be held on Saturday evening, with the girls to tip off at 6 p.m. and the boys following at approximately 7:30 p.m.
