  • At 12:31 p.m. Wednesday, EMS personnel, firefighters, a deputy and a Kansas Highway Patrol officer responded to a two vehicle injury accident that happened at Interstate 135 northbound at milepost 55. The accident involved Phyllis Smith, 61, from Perkins, Okla., and Annette Coates, 57, of San Diego, Calif.
Smith was reportedly driving her 1995 Mercury northbound when she lost control of the vehicle, due to icy conditions, and crossed the meridian, striking Coates, who was driving a 2005 Freightliner towing a utility trailer.
Smith received some minor injuries, and was transported by EMS to Mercy Hospital. Coates was uninjured.
