  • A frantic, second half comeback bid fell short for the Central Christian College men, as they were upset by the College of the Ozarks 81-74 in the 2-3 game of the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference post-season tournament.
The Tigers entered Friday’s game the No. 2 seed, but found themselves down 38-24 to the Bobcats at the end of the first half.
The Bobcats’ lead quickly hit 13 as play resumed in the second half, thanks to a jumper by Mike Wiebe, who finished with 34 points on the night.
The Tigers began to recover, though, as a 6-0 run just seconds later cut the lead to eight, but COFO quickly pushed it back out to 12 at the 14 minute mark.
The Bobcat lead hung around the double digit mark going into the final two minutes of the game, when Chris Jones triggered the Central comeback with 1:50 left on the clock. The Tigers went on a 9-2 run that closed the gap to 75-74 with time running down.
A pair of technical fouls on Central’s Michael Lyons and one on Kaelon Gary, followed by a fourth on coach Tony Romero, put Wiebe on the foul line with no time left on the clock. Wiebe knocked down 6-of-8 on the final free throws, giving the Bobcats the win.
Gary and Aaron Cannon led the Tigers (19-11, 8-8 MCAC) with 18 points. Jones added 17 points.
