MOUNDRIDGE — The Moundridge girls showed no ill-signs of a 12 day lay-off Thursday night, as the Wildcats opened Class 2A sub-state play with a 72-16 thrashing of Canton-Galva.
Moundridge advances to play Peabody-Burns, who defeated Herington 47-46 in overtime Thursday at Moundridge High School.
The Wildcats blasted out to an 18-1 lead after the first quarter and had a 38-5 advantage at the half.
A 22-2 third quarter sealed the game, with the running clock implemented in the fourth.
MacKenzie Suderman scored 15 to lead all scorers. Tiffany Huxman and Ashley Holler both added nine for Moundridge (18-3).
The Eagles end their season at 2-19.
STERLING — The Inman girls ended their season Thursday night with a 67-15 loss to host Sterling in the Sterling Class 2A sub-state.
“It’s a tough way to end our season,” Inman coach Jeff Friesen said. “But, we got beat by a good team that played really well.”
Sterling jumped out to a 31-2 lead after the first quarter, creating an almost insurmountable deficit for the Teutons to overcome.
Kylah Comley led Sterling with 29 points, while Dani Dowell added 10.
Inman was led by Naomi Williams’ six points.
The Teutons end their season at 6-15.
Elyria Christian 55
SYLVAN GROVE — The Elyria Christian boys ended their season Thursday night with a 67-55 loss to host Sylvan-Lucas in the opening round of Class 1A Div. II sub-state play.
The Eagles rallied from 22 down in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 10.
Senior Josh Nichols had 16 points for Elyria, while Daniel Froese and Dawson Knackstedt had 10.
Elyria Christian finishes at 4-16.
