  • James Harold "Jim" Frickey, Sr., 76, of McPherson, entered eternal rest at 4:30 p.m. Friday, March 1, while in the company of family members, at Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis, Wichita.
    Jim was born on Nov. 3, 1936, in Canby, Ore., a son of Fiona E. (Davis) and John Harold Frickey.
    Jim attended the Riffle, Colo., elementary schools and graduated from Riffle Junior High School, Riffle, Colo.
    Jim honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1956 thru 1958.
    Through the years, Jim worked for the city of Norton working with the utilities department and later was dispatch for the sheriff's department, was a truck driver for Groendyke Transport in McPherson and later transferred as assistant terminal manager in Lake Charles, La.; while living in Almena, he served as city marshal, was a farmer, owned and operated Jim's Small Engine Repair shop; he operated the Marina at Sibelius Lake near Norton.
    Jim was a member of the American Legion Post 24, McPherson.
    Jim was united in marriage to Kathleen Teresa "Kay" Kelly on Nov. 28, 1964, at Norton. Kay died on Sept. 13, 2009.
    Jim is survived by his children: Joseph F. Frickey-Kelly and his wife Lynn, of Blythewood, S. C., Steve Meier and his wife Brenda, of Topeka, Jane E. Doverspike, of Beloit, Patricia A. Frickey and her husband Rick Scott, of Colorado Springs, Colo., James H. "Jim" Frickey Jr. and his wife Kim, of Clearwater, and Kimberly K. Becker, of McPherson; his sister, Judy Shean and her husband Calvin, of Hutchinson; his 13 grandchildren, Kimberly Frickey (Michael), Rachel Frickey (Kai), Justin Meier, Cody Meier, Levi Scott, Harley Scott, Tysen Frickey (Stephanie), Joshua Frickey (Kristi), Lucas Frickey, Colin Frickey, Kelly Lucero (Joe), Anthony Arendt, and Brandi Palmer; his eight great-grandchildren, Kaden McCoy, Ariah McCoy, Azure Frickey, Ryder Frickey, Grant Connolly, Rachel Connolly, Alexi Frickey, and Ceagin Lucero; two canine companions Rut and Rudy, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
    Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Kay; a brother, John Steven Frickey; and a sister Marilyn Mines.
    Friends are invited to call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Glidden-Ediger Chapel, McPherson.
    The funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013, at the Glidden-Ediger Chapel, McPherson, with Pastor Terry Post officiating. Military honors will be at the chapel following the service by members of the American Legion Post 24 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 both of McPherson. Cremation will follow the services.
    Inurnment of cremated remains will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, at the McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, with Pastor Terry Post officiating.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Angel Arms Home Health and they can be sent in care of the Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home; 222 W. Euclid St.; McPherson, KS 67460.
