  • Jim Christensen, 50, of McPherson, Kan., passed away at 6 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013 unexpectedly, at his home.

  • Jim Christensen, 50, of McPherson, Kan., passed away at 6 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013 unexpectedly, at his home.
    Jim was born on Dec. 14, 1962, in McPherson,  a son of Robert Dale Christensen and Shirley Ann (Freeburg) Christensen.
    Jim attended Lincoln grade school, Park School, McPherson Junior High and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson.
    He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church McPherson.
    Through the years, Jim worked as a dispatcher for the McPherson County Sheriff’s Office from 1978 thru 1991, and the last three years he worked as a corrections officer and served as a reserve deputy.  He then worked for the National Cooperative Refinery Association as a controller.
    Jim was a member of the local union through NCRA; Jim loved his dogs, playing golf, and spending time at the cabin on the Smokey Hill River.
    Jim is survived by his father, Bob Christensen, of McPherson; his siblings, Pamela Ammons and her husband Callan, of Towanda, and Steven Christensen and his wife Lisa, of Tonganoxie; his nieces and nephews, Jessica Self and her husband Blake, of Wichita, Lucas Ammons, of Towanda, Michael Christensen, of Tonganoxie, and Matthew Christensen, of Tonganoxie.
    Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Christensen; his maternal grandparents, Bud and Freda Freeburg and paternal grandparents, Clifford and Elizabeth Christensen.
    Friends are invited to call from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church, McPherson.
    The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church, McPherson, with the Reverend Tim Leaf officiating.
    Private family inurnment will be at McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, at a later date.
    Memorials in memory of Jim can be made to the McPherson County Humane Society, and they can be sent in care of the Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home; 222 W. Euclid St.; McPherson, KS 67460.
