George D. Anderson, 88, of rural Emporia, died Monday, March 11, 2013, at the Holiday Resort Care Center.
George David Anderson, the son of David and O’Tillie Hagstrom Anderson was born Nov. 20, 1924, in McPherson. He married Mary Ellen White on July 23, 1958, in Miami, Okla. She preceded him in death on Aug. 15, 2004.
Mr. Anderson graduated in 1942 from McPherson High School. He was a farmer and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Ball-McColm Post No. 5 of the American Legion, Lowry-Funston Post No. 1980 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans, the Emporia Eagles Club Aerie No. 2587, and the First Congregational Church.
He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Sandra and Roger Brummett of Emporia and Georgeanna and Raymond Nichols of Sedgwick; a sister, Ramona Jones of Gillette, Wy.; five grandchildren, Justin Brummett, Nicole Brummett, Travis Brummett, Andrea Heck, Shauna Walden; three great-grandchildren, Cayman Heck, Carsen Heck and Jett Walden.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. The Rev. Andrew McHenry of the First Congregational Church will conduct the service, with Military Honors by Ball-McColm Post No. 5 of the American Legion and Lowry-Funston Post No. 1980 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He will be cremated after the service, with interment in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, at a later date.
The family will visit with friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at the funeral home.
