  • Postseason honors are starting to come out in the aftermath of the 2012-2013 high school basketball season, and the area teams are finding themselves well represented.
For McPherson, nine players between the boys’ and girls’ teams were honored by the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Division III.
For the boys, sophomore Kyler Kinnamon and senior Keaton Sorenson were named to the AVCTL Div. III first team, while senior Marcus Houghton was picked for the second team. Juniors Peter and Ryan Horton both picked up honorable mention nods.
Additionally, Kyler Kinnamon, instrumental in much of the Bullpups’ success this past season, was selected as the player of the year. Kinnamon averaged 14.3 points and 6.8 assists for MHS this season.
McPherson coach Kurt Kinnmaon, who just completed his 18th year as head coach of the Bullpups, was selected as the division’s co-coach of the year along with El Dorado’s Gary Melcher. The Bullpups finished the year 19-3.
Houghton and fellow senior Alex Bahr were both also selected by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association to their Academic All-State Team. To be eligible for this honor, players must be seniors and rank in the top 25 percent of their class with ACT scores of 25 or higher.
For the McPherson High girls, who just finished second in the Class 4A state tournament this past weekend, seniors Katelyn Loecker and Hailey Ruder, along with junior Abby Pedersen, were named to the AVCTL Div. III first team.
Junior Janae Barnes was given a nod for honorable mention.
Additionally, Loecker was selected as the division MVP, the second year in a row she has received the distinction, though last year’s came in the AVCTL Div. II. MHS coach Chris Strathman was tabbed as the Div. III coach of the year.
Moundridge and Inman dominated postseason honors in the Heart of America league.
On the boys side, Moundridge senior Daniel Ratzlaff and Inman senior Josh Miller were both selected HOA first team. On the second team, Inman placed senior Alex Ropp and juniors Tyler Cottam and Justin Friesen. Moundridge senior Tyler Kaufman was also selected to the second team.
Honorable mentions went to Moundridge senior Ryan Lorimer, junior Hunter Enyart and sophomore Colton Frazer.
For the girls, Moundridge had juniors Brooke Holloway and MacKenzie Suderman named to the first team, along with Inman’s Kaitlynn Goalden.
Second team nods went to Moundridge’s Michelle Schrag and Canton-Galva’s Erika Smith. Canton-Galva freshman Cassidy Enns was named honorable mention.
