I am writing to encourage community members to communicate their support to our representative and senators in their commitment to balancing the federal budget.
As the head of my household, I make budget decisions consistent with the needs and financial goals of my family. I work to provide income. I attend school to enhance my ability to provide better in the future. I spend every dollar purposefully on paper before it enters the bank. When needs arise that do not fall within the budget, I make adjustments.
Two of my children have been diagnosed with chronic illnesses. The ability to find health care assistance through the state of Kansas health care plan has enabled them to make progress toward wellness. It has also kept the financial burden of their medical needs manageable.
My family and I moved to our interest- free Habitat for Humanity home two years ago. It is a beautiful, safe space for us to live and grow with affordable monthly payments. While building our home beside the gifted Habitat for Humanity volunteers, we learned about budgeting, time management and home maintenance.
Personal stewardship, government partnership and community activism have made seemingly impossible financial circumstances an opportunity for learning and growth. Balancing the budget of our government will require a change in priorities, goal setting and work. It is my hope we can leave our children a legacy of responsible fiscal management, which recognizes our resources are not unlimited and our daily decisions impact the future.
